my qth is Allschwil; a suburb of Basel; about 19'200 inhabitants in the canton  Baselland (BL). About  21% (2009) are non Swiss.

We live here in the northwest corner of Switzerland; frontiers with France and Germany are only a few kilometers away.

My Locator: JN37sn

the house is surrounded by other houses on three sides - free view to the horizon in North-East direction.

Here are a few pictures of Allschwil and surroundings.

As I have little space for my shack, I built a wooden rack on wheels, that is stored in a bookshelf.

So, I can arrange my equipment conviently and hide all the connection wiring.

In the last twenty years, a collection of units has been accumulated:

  • The main station, Yaesu FT-1000D, procured in 1992, used only for CW and digital modes (RTTY,MFSK, Olivia et al)
  • For SSB and FM there is a little FT-840, but rarely used.
  • Kenwood TM-G707 is used for talking relays on 2m and 70 cm
  • ICOM-910H is mostly used for satellite communications
  • FT-736R is used solely for 6m CW

Having worked over 30 years in a datacenter shows looking at the PC, which has 10 COM- and several USB-ports to control the equipment ;-).

to reach the rear side of the units, I only have to remove the table, then the rack can be moved forwards.

Then I can re-arrange my cabling - evin comfortably seated ...

From time to time I rearrange the boxes in my search for a more optimum arrangement, and then - of course - some cables are to short, others to long.

It does not look so pretty, but is very convenient.

I have also a little workbench, where I build new gear and try to repair others.

Very little space - have to clear the mess very often.
